This GC blew me away. I cannot fathom the selflessness of Rev Herbert Pugh, who went down with the ship HMT Anselm.
An interesting aside, Anselm was sunk by U96, made famous by Lothar-Günther Buchheim, author of Das Boot. Buchheim joined the boat a few months after Anselm.

On @newsofthewar.bsky.social, we've revelled in stories that aren't well known, 1939-45. We were keen to do a VC-special. But when @andyaitch.bsky.social realised he'd got unseen film of Ian Liddell VC - that was something else.
Apropos the recent @WeHaveWaysPod series, the film of Sink the Bismarck is a constant, smashing reminder of men and map rooms. Affinity with the situation at a distance, decision-making in context, correlation on a small scale and horrendous decisions. Maps, eh.
This week, It was the anniversary of T E Lawrence's untimely demise. Left a few desert blooms for him, not so long ago. The marker where he fell nearby was looking rough, but the cemetery is kept tidy.
