I also find myself annoyed in these discussions when someone suggests that the concern over social media is just a moral panic. It sounds dismissive and condescending. Declaring a moral panic means you don't need to bother responding to other people's concerns; they are by definition unreasonable.

When I read opinions that are opposed to social media bans, I always want to ask whether there is any age at which social media platforms should be obligated to deny access. If 16 seems too old, what about 12 or 13? What about 8 or 9? Or do they think that laissez faire is the best policy?

I haven’t reached an internal consensus on an u-16 ban yet but feel very strongly that 16-25 year olds are having both rights and responsibilities stripped from them and this is a Bad Thing.
