Aerial PARTIAL view of the anti racist, anti fascist crowd in Belfast right now. City Hall to the left for scale. This - this is the real Belfast. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I loved Marina Zucchelli’s novel Latte about the relationship between a wealthy new mother and the wet nurse she employed in late 1950s Bologna. Such a fascinating exploration of maternity, class and power, I hope it will be translated so I can recommend it to more people

Many women have been horrifically killed here in the past 5 years, including at least 7 who were stabbed multiple times, and their deaths did not receive statements from the PM, debates in the commons, or global news coverage. Nor were there any riots, or condemnations of cultures by politicians.

In at least 21 of the 30 deaths, the killers - or the suspects in their killings - were well-known to the women.

Per most recent figures, net migration to NI *over the past 22 years* has been ~62,000 people. Only 3% of Northern Ireland’s population currently belong to an ethnic minority. Pogroms in Belfast (as with Ballymena last year) are just gutter-level "One Is One Too Many" racism, and nothing else.
