I love the idea of describing some timeframes of World War I as not "full-on war" because like... there was a week between the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the Second Battle of the Aisne.

The latest exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran may mark the end of a fragile ceasefire that has withstood numerous violations over the past two months.
But an outright return to full-on war still looks unlikely.
There have been no known direct talks between the two sides since April 11, and escalating tit-for-tat strikes threaten a return to all-out conflict.
