I used to discuss SIT (Sterile Insect Technique) in my undergrad class for controlling screw worm and mediterranean fruit fly. Maybe I shouldn't've stopped.

I teach things that some people consider "theoretical" as opposed to "applied," and many of them think we should only teach subjects that lead directly to a job. I don't make the theoretical v. applied distinction. I teach stuff that has long term value but it's not always immediately obvious.
