Bravo @willmckinley.bsky.social! Thank you for the truly stellar hosting of this powerful film for #TheNoirCollective! A fantastic choice!
It's been a minute, but that ending with the cross falling/fade to black. Astounding it was made in the studio system. A pleasure to watch with you & the group.

I've been remiss in not mentioning Hugh Sanders performance as Charlie Barr, which is almost Wellesian in its villainy.
And Sanders had a long career as a radio announcer, so he had the pipes to back it up. #TheNoirCollective #StormWarning

This radio reporter sequence is interesting for a couple reasons.
It's the first time me see people of color in a movie about the KKK.
And the writers are using the reporter as a medium to editorialize about hate, ignorance, violence against the press, etc.

From Doris Day skipping to the door for a deep-focus smooch, to Marsha primping, to the revelation that Lucy's hot husband is one of the murderers — a brilliantly staged sequence filled w/ conflicting emotion.

Now this is some excellent #Noircheology, noiristas!
