If allowed to go through, this will be catastrophic for science in the U.S., and by extension, the global community, given the vital role that the U.S. has played in the scientific community for decades.
My colleague, environmental scientist @andrajgarner.bsky.social, has a paper out about the variability and inconsistency of spring weather being a climate change concern. Tomorrow the forecast calls for a 40° change in temperature. (Never mind a third consecutive day of 90+ in May.)
Had a great time hosting "Chasing Ice" with students in my sea level course @rowancsm.bsky.social's Edelman Planetarium last night! We had a fantastic turnout, and the students did a great job discussing sea level rise impacts with our audience after the show!
Had a great week at the International Summer School organized in Venice last week! It was the perfect place for discussions on coastal climate change. I delivered a keynote lecture focused on my work with sea level projections, and had great conversations with the other participants.
Excited to see our paper on springtime temperature variability get some coverage from @bloomberg.com! I was glad to contribute to this piece by @eroston.bsky.social

Glad to provide comments for a piece in Le Monde newspaper discussing a new study about sea level adaptation pathways in Venice! This type of flexible adaptation pathway will be vital as our coastal communities look to become more resilient in an uncertain future. www.lemonde.fr/planete/arti...

Excited to share our latest work, published today in Eos! The U.S. has led and helped to fund about a third of all global sea level projections ever produced. Now, attacks on science in the U.S. have left the field at a precipice.

BREAKING: New proposed OMB regulation, applying to all federal grants, requiring grant reviews by senior political appointees and re-emphasizes that "peer review remains advisory and does not replace agency discretion". #standupforscience public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2026-10817.pdf

When we cut critical Federal funds for science, we all pay the price. The impacts of this loss of scientific innovation will be felt especially acutely in our coastal communities. Check out my latest op-ed, published today in The Philadelphia Inquirer, to learn more! share.inquirer.com/iC6tHv
Story ideas come from weird places. Last month I turned on the AC 2 days after running the heat. Then 2 days later the AC was off and the heat on. This prompted the q: "Is this normal?" The answer: "I mean, what is normal anymore?" A jv with @emmarcourt.bsky.social www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Cuts to federal science funding means we’ll be more vulnerable to hurricanes and nor’easters here in the Mid-Atlantic.

Progress toward supporting safer, more affordable coastal communities in the face of climate change is at risk from a storm of cuts to U.S. scientific funding.

Today, the University of Maine's Vice Chancellor for Finance and Strategic AI Integration (who made $243,000 last year) sent UMaine campuses an announcement that we have partnered with OpenAI with a contract for ChatGPT Edu. I sent him the following questions:
