I think what's especially weird about it is so much effort has gone into streamlining the process and engines are so refined and flexible. Hard not to think it's pure corporate/management bloat more than anything that causes these lead times
I still like video games well enough but I'm turning 41 in a couple days. Fallout 4 came out when I was 30, that's just dumb. Played Fallouts 1 and 2 at age 12/13 and that was perfect
Modern game dev cycle is absurd. When we were kids you got a new Final Fantasy almost every year until college. Now you leave childhood entirely between each installment. Pretty much lost the plot entirely
