Congress: we passed a law to let judges reduce prison sentences if 1) extraordinary & compelling reasons warrant it, & 2) the reduction is consistent w/ the Sentencing Commission's policy statements, neat huh? Supreme Court: ISN'T THERE SOMEONE YOU FORGOT TO ASK ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/supre...
Conservative senator Jeff Flake who voted to confirm Kavanaugh on to #SCOTUS despite his character issues is now lecturing Maine abt character and urging them to vote for shady conservative Susan Collins who also voted to confirm Kavanaugh. I can't emphasize this. F**k these people who got us here.
"[W]e need not wait for politicians and judges to build a new constitutional world. We can articulate our vision of the political community and work to make it a reality using whatever means are at our disposal." 🔥
Keep reading his lips: "I love the inflation."
VP Vance's “referral” is nothing but a political stunt. Since day one, my office has investigated, prosecuted, and won convictions against people who steal from Medicaid. We've followed the evidence, enforced the law, and held wrongdoers accountable—340 of them—without fear or favor.
going to channel @nikobowie.bsky.social and Daphna Renan here and note that this piece conflates the court's horizontal review of congressional statutes (highly controversial and politically contested throughout American history) with vertical review of state law and enforcement of federal law.
and of course never ever let Susan Collins lecture anyone again on how she is a good judge of character. As I said before - I have lived in Maine - have knocked on tens of thousands of doors of Maine houses up and down the coast back in the day. I'd vote for a ham sandwich over shady Susan.
