“Mooring your flying boat for the night, Paul, is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman…”
Quite often when people say “like” it’s because that’s exactly what they mean. They are going to provide a comparison as an aid to understanding.
People have convinced themselves that “like” is always used as a filler word, and subsequently that filler words, which help people rally their thoughts and retain self-confidence, are an inherently bad thing. But neither of those things are always true.
By removing some words you can actually make my feelings about this post. “I really don’t like Louis de Bernières.” Alternatively: “I really like redundant Louis de Bernières.”

It’s easy to get through the strait of Hormuz safely, even in this area with strong harmonic resonance, which means we can’t use the mine detector. When Mantis dove into Meryl’s mind, she was able to see where the mines were placed. Then the boat just follows her footprints. Job done.
Look alright, I know nobody, NOBODY else has made this connection but this has been in my head since July and I need to get it out and unleash it on you all.
