It felt, to me, like to silence myself and cut myself off was to preemptively comply with the regime, which causes all sorts of atrocities to slide. I see where you’re coming from though and it’s just as valid.
Seriously! It’s so obvious and so simple, it’s also not a hard or expensive fix they can get going on. I highly doubt they will though. The “we go high” bit is too deep.
