In 1989, a very unfunny pub bore once tried on me; "First one's called ALIEN, second one's called ALIENS. What are they going to call the next one? HORDES OF THE BLOODY THINGS?". I remained stoneyfaced, and deadpanned "ALIENSES, probably." I don't think we were comedically compatible.

Anyone who insists on referring to the first Alien movie as 'A L I E N' needs an urgent date with a facehugger. It's just some typographic styling for the titles, it's not the literal movie title.
