I like Doctor Who, running, Freak Zone music, and the Scottish Green Party, and I love my cat Marvin and my wife Helen.

I used to say "Alien Cubed" for a while. My local cinema's sign said "Aliens 3", which drove me insane.
Today, we marked the millionth parkrun, my home parkrun reached its 250th event, and one of my colleagues volunteered for the 500th time. These round numbers represent giving one's time freely for the common good.
What a contrast to this week's news story about one man's obscene personal wealth.
Same.
Finally got round to "Backrooms" today. Glad I did. It's quite a broadside volley of references to things I already like; "Portal", "Pools", "Monument Valley", Boards of Canada (which made me glad I'd waited, as I knew the track), and "Piranesi", for which coincidentally, Ejiofor read the audiobook.
Does anyone remember a one-off BBC drama about two men watching Scotland’s games on telly in the 1978 World Cup? This was all we saw, but it revealed their wider lives as they spoke. One took “fellatio” to be a style of Italian football play. Play For Today?
I ran 16 miles in Berkshire yesterday, which finally precipitated the detachment of my right second toenail, which had been heading that way since Manchester Marathon, 53 days ago. This happens after about half the marathons I do. It actually looks and feels far less horrible now it's off.
I'm depleted by people waving their hands near me when they talk, even on screen. Broadcasters understand this - seated newsreaders never wave their hands, but standing presenters who don't fill the screen do. Youtubers and Zoom participants - please don't flap your hands into the camera #noflap
In 1989, a very unfunny pub bore once tried on me; "First one's called ALIEN, second one's called ALIENS. What are they going to call the next one? HORDES OF THE BLOODY THINGS?". I remained stoneyfaced, and deadpanned "ALIENSES, probably." I don't think we were comedically compatible.
From “The Illuminated Man” (Priest, Allan, 2026) this is JG Ballard discussing Doctor Who and Blake’s Seven. Which episode is he remembering? I think it could be “Aftermath”.
