Russia struck the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, setting its roof on fire. Built in the 11th century, the cathedral is the main church of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Ukraine's most important Christian shrines.

This is one of Ukraine’s most historic and important religious sites.

If this film not a pure AI product (and I'm pretty sure it's not), it's something even worse; a human-made film product that is trying to simulate an AI-film product. Who would want to do that? Zhang Yimou and team, apparently. As a surrender? A confession? A shortcut? A token of exhaustion? 4/5

Love this! I fully agree with Shawn, that overcrowded street festivals are a sign that we need more of them, not less.

Maybe the opening official seal (not the 龙标, something else, the first time I've seen it on a film) gives us a clue? 5/5
SCARE OUT 惊蛰无声 Zhang Yimou, 2026. Mac users may know what it feels like to use "Center Stage", a mild AI-ish feature that keeps you more or less centred on screen while your iPad or Mac's camera records you in a conversation. 1/5

In fact, the whole film feels planned, scripted, acted, and shot by AI movie-generating technology that can't quite manufacture the real thing. Snappy, shallow, designed for moment-to-moment "impact" rather than any kind of sense-making. 3/5

Toronto: “where the ethos is people in public space is a problem”. Exactly right. Imagine any other civilized city thinking like this.

It doesn't quite work: the camera's virtual POV keeps wandering, looking for that centring shot. Was SCARE OUT shot with this kind of technology? Zhang's cameras keep vaguely floating around the characters' heads, never quite finding the right framing. 2/5
