Last week the Scottish Gov Budget set out a raft of measures including how it would be cutting child poverty to meet its targets & changes to the Scottish Child Payment www.gov.scot/publications... @ruthpatrick0.bsky.social @uofgussp.bsky.social #childpoverty #ScottishChildPayment #FamilyFinances
Fantastic to see @johnswinney.bsky.social cite our new analysis of the very real difference that the Scottish Child Payment is making in Scotland. Investment in social security is a good thing! By @kittyjstewart.bsky.social @emmatominey.bsky.social @ilonapin.bsky.social @katejandersen.bsky.social
New working paper on the impact of the Scottish Child Payment - a cash transfer to low income families in Scotland summarised nicely by @ilonapin.bsky.social
Our second paper explores evidence around whether SCP weakens work incentives. It looks at the impact of the ‘cliff edge’ - the point where a small increase in earnings could take families above the eligibility threshold for Scottish child payment leading to an overall loss of income.
Two new Working Papers from our mixed-methods study Family Finances out now📣 📰 Our first paper looks at the emerging qual & quant findings showing that Scottish Child Payment is making a significant difference to household resources & children's wellbeing 🧵
Does marriage still causally change the division of labour after having a first child? We revisit this question and find evidence of two types of households - some specialize BUT for more modern couples marriage increases coordination - men earn less, take more paternity leave and women keep working
So happy to see our paper out - with my great coauthors Sarah and Kjell
We are hiring an Associate Professor (open field) at the Department of Economics, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Feel free to message me / email for any further information. Please share! www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...
It's so important to find out what's working with SCP and what isn't so that we can tweak / change policies to reduce child poverty - lessons useful for Westminster aswell as Scotland. Without funding independent research, policies will be made in the dark.
Very saddened by the loss of @financialfairness.bsky.social trust as funder of research. They funded our project with @ruthpatrick0.bsky.social @kittyjstewart.bsky.social @ilonapin.bsky.social‬ Suzanna Nesom @katejandersen.bsky.social @cpaguk.bsky.social to evaluate the Scottish Child Payment
