great journeys nz (that runs the auckland-wellington ‘northern explorer’ sightseeing train) posted this in their socials. imagine a proper train for travelling from auckland to wellington and places between. okay maybe continue the tourist day train but then have a serious proper night train

(SJ is ending its 6 nights/week operation because the swedish state ended its subsidy, but its german partner for the train RDC will take it over fully with a 3 night/week service)
