Want to know what we learned from all those many babies? Of course you do! Short & sweet summary of outcomes but also all the different kinds of methodological and measurement issues we've been able to study!
Funniest workshop I went to in grad school was an even split of cognitive scientists (slides), linguists (15 page 10pt handout), and philosophers (reading prepared text verbatim!!!) We were all so scandalized by each others' talk norms, it was a great ice breaker.
Philosophy - the arguments are so technical and precise that you will never be able to get them right from extemporaneous speech, and your audience will pounce. Looking back, we all had very high expectations of our audiences but in very different ways.
good poll
Everyone's self justifications, according to the evening social: Cogsci - slides, bc your goal is to give a talk where everyone in the room will understand the main point. Ling - Everyone needs all your glossed sentence examples so they can critique them, and refer back to example 3 ten min. later
Exempting research from sharing data because it could lead to the identification of research subjects is very reasonable but also orthogonal to whether the data is “qualitative” or “quantitative”. Meanwhile the latter distinction, despite much magical thinking, is one that no-one can clearly define.
Wow and also Oh No!
Today was my AHA moment. Did u know that R Markdown can cite all packages for u when you knit the document? And it only requires two lines of code. Silly me - I was citing every package manually. Thank you @mklingelhoeferj.bsky.social for teaching me so many cool things today! @improvingpsych.org

Autonomous AI agents are now built into many browsers. A naive user can take an online survey with as little as the click of a button. For behavioral research, which depends heavily on online samples, this is a real problem. (1/7)
