I want this to be a space where I chat about books and authors and maybe post silly memes.
I'll go to trusted news outlets to stay informed. And I'll look at it through a Canadian context.
It is way harder than it should be to avoid American politics popping up on my feed. I keep saying 'show less like this' or straight-up blocking accounts, but it still appears.
When I want to hear about what's happening down south, I'll go to a trusted news source when I'm in the right headspace.
I am not American. I don't NEED to know all this minutiae. I also don't trust the info that comes cross my feed.
I don't want or need to know the small bits about this political race or that the moldy orange said something inflammatory. It's exhausting.
I was hoping this place could be like old Twitter where we could form little communities around different topics. But all the big ragebait stuff still sneaks its way in when I try to curate a feed.
