Here’s my initial post on Digital Safety bill: government is taking a kitchen sink approach by throwing everything into Bill C-34 and leaving many key details to future regulations, many to be decided by a Commission that doesn’t exist yet. This will take years. www.michaelgeist.ca/2026/06/ever...
One thing that has become very clear reading recent bills: the government's favourite phrase is "reasonable to suspect". Actual, provable facts don't appear to matter anymore.
The government is trying to jam lawful access through committee, Online Harms dropped today and rumour has it that privacy law reform is coming next week. Feels like "flooding the zone".
