PPB officers (in their cop cars) are always trying to smile at me and my kid while we’re stopped at lights on our bike but the feeling is not mutual, and we do not smile back.
Bicycling is an inherently safe activity. Cars make it unsafe, scary, and nerve-wracking and that's what prevents many people from riding. It's pretty simple!
Ah yes let’s stop all city business to meet with the emperor
Nearly 2 months ago I got hit by a car while I was riding my bike. I won’t rehash the whole story here, I have posted about it enough already, but I have not stopped being furious about the way I was treated afterwards by the PPB. www.portlandmercury.com/news/road-ru...
The city should be deeply embarrassed by this. The 2nd “best bike city” in the US, which has seen traffic deaths rise for years, failing cyclists and pedestrians in such a blatant way. I’m still alive, and I’m not going to shut up about this.
I told multiple officers - it’s not a budget issue, it’s a prioritization issue. They show up 100 deep in riot gear when there’s a handful of protestors, they get millions in unnecessary overtime, but they can’t do the very basic shit like traffic citations?
It's amazing how many posts and stories like this you see. E-bikes are revolutionizing transportation, enabling people to go more places without cars, and there's an all-out assault to kill them.
Shame to see Oregon’s state leadership not come up with a solution to prevent these cuts from happening. This is of course how empires fail, things just get worse while the ruling classes focus on robbing the till and building coliseums to distract us.

this is 100% the fault of the oregon state legislature and was 100% preventable
