Ridicule is generally not the best way to convince someone for sure. But some of the craziness that comes out of people sometimes makes it hard to resist.
Definitely class. A quality non existent in Trump’s orbit or MAGA.
It would be interesting to see the reaction of some of these people afraid of “European socialism” if they actually travelled in Western Europe. Probably not the hellholes they expect.
Valid points. But they also oppose wind farms in the ocean. In Europe they are starting to put solar panels on top of parking lots. These may or may not be good ideas but to reject them as reflex makes no sense to me. I am old enough to remember polio so knee jerk vaccine resistance makes me crazy.
Imagine a system where a failing leader can be removed! I know he resigned but if he hadn’t he was gone anyway. What a concept!
And 20’s Italy, Salazar’s Portugal and on and on. Fear/hatred of “the other” is one of the most potent weapons in a demagogue’s arsenal.
I read about projects putting solar panels over canals, reservoirs etc. Not only produces energy but reduces epavoration and doesn’t take up land. California, India and Ontario I think were the jurisdictions experimenting with it. Maybe will work but you know that MAGA would oppose it.

What I can’t get my head around is the reflexive antipathy to anything new. Virtually every new technology is resisted. Read all the “when I was a kid we didn’t use seatbelts, rode in the back of pickups, drank directly from hose, none of these fancy medicines etc“ comments on social media. Amazing!
