Indonesian paper giant, APRIL, has said it will buy wood fibre from companies that cleared over 47,000 hectares of tropical forest since 2020.🪵
We've joined 22 other NGOs to condemn the decision, calling on them to uphold their sustainability commitments & reject suppliers linked to deforestation.
🙌 Over 2000 concerned citizens and organisations from across Europe and beyond raised their voices to urge the EU Commission to keep leather in the EUDR, showing they care about the EU's impact on forests and want to see industries held accountable.✊

Strong EU Deforestation Regulation = traceable and deforestation-free leather. The leather lobby is pushing back. Public consultation closes 1 JUNE. Have your say: tinyurl.com/zk8puwwh

The Commission is ignoring evidence linking EU leather imports to deforestation.
🤯 The inconsistency is stark: beef from deforested land would be banned but hides from the same animal would be allowed. 🐄
The EUDR cannot be weakened any further; companies must prepare for December 2026.
The European Commission has revealed its “simplification package” for the EUDR, including a proposal to remove leather from the scope.
‼️Let’s be clear: this isn’t simplification‼️
Removing leather protects industry interests and caves in to sustained lobbying: www.earthsight.org.uk/news/eudr-si...

The EU Commission’s proposal to remove leather from #EUDR is open for feedback until 1 June.
Tell the Commission that removing leather would weaken the EUDR’s ability to address global deforestation.🌳

📢 CLOSING SOON: The @ec.europa.eu consultation on the EUDR ends on 1 June.
If beef from deforested land is banned, why should leather from the same cow still be allowed into the EU?
Removing leather would weaken the law and reward laggards.

📰 Great piece out today on the EU Commission's plan to drop leather from the EUDR ➡️ bit.ly/4uraREJ
Cattle ranching drives deforestation globally and in the Amazon. Keeping leather in scope could deliver nearly €2bn in environmental benefits per year. Instead, forests & communities will lose out.
