Any pronouns. Annoying vegan. I post about my thoughts and hyperfixations. Pumpkin art when it's the time of the year.

Like if you just looked up what the male gaze is and applied this concept to this show, you would immediately notice that there is a heteronormative, patriarchal image of women in it. And yet people will hold this up as an example of a piece of media spearheading women's empowerment.
What really annoys me especially on here is how you can just bring up how a blatantly regressive image of women is being deployed in some cartoon as a pet peeve and you have loads of purposely ignorant fans flood your notifications about how much they don't understand feminist critique.
It's far and away more sexual than anything in Gameoverse and yet it has the better image of women by a long shot because the women in it actually get to have agency and pleasure and aren't reduced to objects for the reader.
Idk I was randomly reminded of how Asumi-chan is a manga by a woman about a healthy depiction of consensual lesbian sex and a messy but properly communicated open relationship where the main character has sex 24/7 for her pleasure and isn't degraded or objectified and noticeably enjoys the sex.
Idk even Bayonetta's image of women is more progressive than and it has loads of issues. Why not just choose something actually empowering for women? Something that breaks new grounds or is provocative and transgressive towards the male centric norm? Something explicitly explicitly empowering women?

The excuses are some George Lucas ass "Padme is just as important as the men" shit where it's obviously not true to anyone with a critical eye and only parroted by fans who need someone to tell them it's ok to enjoy sexy woman in film/cartoon. This isn't about how watching a cartoon is a moral wrong

And the only explanation as to why that is are vapid ass surface level explanations like Kit not being outright sexually assaulted or the bikini being drawn by a woman or something. Ok cool, does this detract from the disempowerment in any way? Does this present anything new about women? No.

admitting you're wrong or have the wrong idea sucks and is embarrassing for like 2 minutes but then you become enlightened afterwards as you rectify your poor understanding & it feels really good to realize your view of the world became that much more concrete. why doesn't everyone do that!
