FDR's 1935 "Wealth Tax Act" or #SoakTheRich tax, was a major tax hike to raise revenue for the New Deal and reduce income inequality. It raised the top marginal income tax rate to 79% on incomes over $5 million (roughly $125 million in 2026 dollars) and increased estate and corporate taxes.
