All he was doing was walking down stage to pick up a plum laser and a hole that wasnt there before was suddenly there
And now he probably walks differently for the rest of his life
Having a job in the trades is not an automatic death sentence or necessarily a huge cost on your health over time
You absolutely can work with your body your whole life and come out on the other side possibly even healthier than most people who don't
I don't like emphasizing this part out sometimes but what I do actually is pretty dangerous and life threatening
I've seen it kill people
I've seen it mutilate people
I've long ago wrote that off as the inherent risk in doing any sort of high octane shit
But man it gets to me sometimes
Every horrible injury or death story someone tells you in the trades starts just like that
He's done it a million times before
He had no reason to assume it would go wrong this time
Except it did.
Someday it might for me.
Have to remember that.
Like if I were afraid of getting hurt or killed every time I worked it wouldn't be possible to do this job
But that just sort of is true. The same as driving
Every time I feel myself about to do something risky I always whisper in the back of my head "why wouldn't this be the time it happens"
They're gonna be alright
This gig is gnarly sometimes man God damn
I know multiple men in their 50s with abs
Being active climbers even in middle age is a fairly big component of why they can do that
And why not everybody in the trades who turns 40 automatically gets soft and sloppy and unathletic

God it just kicks so much ass
On the flip side
Far from wrecking me into old age
Managing my health with this as my profession is very likely to see me age gracefully
There are tons of men who have been doing from as young as I was when I started, my early 20s, who are vibrantly healthy and youthful into middle and old age
"what's your favorite album of the 2000s? Is it American idiot or the black para-"
Shut up. Shut your pie hole
Make up the breakdown by the hot hot heat is the best album of that decade I dont care what anyone says
