Five new letters have been identified in the ancient Sidetic alphabet, bringing the total to 31.
The alphabet belongs to a lost language once spoken in the ancient port of Side in Anatolia (modern-day Türkiye), and is related to Lycian and Carian.

Researchers at Side Ancient City in Antalya have raised the known number of Sidetic alphabet letters from 26 to 31, offering new hope for deciphering one of Anatolia’s lost languages.

This fresco detail includes a swallow (happy to stand corrected by folk with more bird knowledge!) and comes from the garden painting from the House of the Golden Bracelet, Pompeii.
