What these declarations tell me is that the priority of the person making them is their own image, not avoiding or eliminating prejudice. That self-centeredness is great for maintaining bigotry and blind spots: you never have to confront your biases if you never look past your own privileged nose.

Let knowing you're "not one" be enough. You wouldn't immediately feel compelled to make dramatic proclamations that you're not like the white women/men/whatever being referred to if you weren't one.
If you really weren't one, knowing you're not would be enough.
