I'm sorry, I can't resist "it (combichem) was considered a major breakthrough in the 1990s for the speed it promised to bring to early-stage drug discovery." "Breakthrough" is 100% the wrong word (IMO (spoken as never a med chemist)). "Promised" is the correct word, I think.
