It's flag day today because Congress approved the design on June 14, 1777. Seems exciting. But on June 14 1776, and most days, most of their work was the regular stuff of governing and war. Like sourcing camp kettles.

Be careful out there! I was surprised to see one of my ancestors listed as a Lt. in the Am Revolution on Find a Grave website — a credible source cited. I checked source. He is not listed there — or anywhere else as a Rev War participant. #Genealogy Check sources for info found on the internet!
Today is the 251st anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Samuel Leighton of Kittery Maine enlisted in the 30th Regiment of Foot on May 3, 1775 and fought at Bunker Hill a little over a month later. His papers, including this muster roll, live with us. Happy Bunker Hill Day! Don't forget that over 100 Black and Indigenous men fought at the battle including Salem Poor. He was the only man singled out for recognition, though they didn't say why. Poor purchased his own freedom before the war & served for multiple battles www.nps.gov/people/salem... 🗃️
