I want to emphasize this because it’s trans history. In the 80s and 90s a lot of trucking companies paid well and covered transition care. There were a lot of trans women that took jobs as truckers, transitioned, and quietly disappeared into their lives. Nothing white collar about it.
As it is, many industries simply won’t hire us. I had a phlebotomist trans friend be told that no one would hire her in her state cause queers have “dirty blood”. It’s not something magical about computers that makes people transition and I’m so fucking exhausted with the stereotypes.
There are a seemingly disproportionate number of trans women in tech because that industry pays well and has generally been decent about people transitioning. In the 90s it was trucking, not tech. If other industries followed suit you’d see a whole lot of trans women in other roles.
They lived together for months. They were incredibly intimate. Were their bodies in any way compatible? Not really. Is that a barrier if you’re at all queer and know how to use toys or otherwise how to get sexually creative? Not a bit.
I just finished the novel of Project Hail Mary last week (I haven’t seen the movie yet). People who have seen the movie say that there was a certain tension between Grace and Rocky. Having read it let me tell you that that science teacher and the rock alien were definitely fucking.
