They say their job "is not to adjudicate theological debates" but Pentagon leadership have repeatedly denigrated and attacked atheists and humanists. Their decision to include "agnostic" as a faith code, but not "atheist" or "humanist" — while also having "No Religion" — is bizarre.

We're still waiting to hear back from the Pentagon about how they decided how to consolidate these categories. Their "explanation" — that less information somehow helps chaplains better do their job — still doesn't hold water.
As with most things this administration does on questions of religion, we're forced to assume the worst. Why keep "agnostic" but not the others? Is it because they want to send a signal to Christian Nationalist chaplains about who they should target for unconstitutional proselytizing?

While it might be more convenient for White Christian Nationalists like Pete Hegseth to pretend that atheists don't exist, simply repeating the lie doesn't make it true.
