We’re here today if you’d like to come see us. Thank you to everyone who is doing what feels right to them today.❤️
Rare that I get to co-write/illustrate a cover/design the book.
W/ Estuary from Oni Press (!), I had the opportunity to do all that & felt the need to level-up as a member of this incredible the team:
Andry/House/Canon/Esposito/Pallares/Del Rey
Pre-order weekend is here!
Shout out to my LCS @capecowlcomics.bsky.social . The way that I find out about a lot of comics I otherwise would pass is either through Eitan or one of the very knowledgeable staffers who work there. They're enthusiastic about books they enjoy and will tell you why.
For my final (written) piece from ComicsPRO, I talked to folks like @jazzlynstone.bsky.social, @patrickhorvath.bsky.social, @filipsablik.bsky.social, @capecowlcomics.bsky.social, and more about what's making them the most hopeful about this moment in comics. The results were...honestly quite lovely!
Over on ICv2, I wrote about the great @capecowlcomics.bsky.social, an Oakland institution that's run by one of my favorite folks in comics, Eitan Manhoff. I talked with Manhoff about the journey of the shop and the hits and misses he had along the way, and it's good one.
Selling comics to comic shops is hard work, but could it be done more effectively? And made easier, even? I tried to find out, as I asked retailers like @thirdeyecomics.bsky.social, @capecowlcomics.bsky.social, and @challengers.bsky.social for tips on how creators can better sell their work.
I wrote about ten things I liked or didn't like from the week of comics, including Squirrel Girl heading to Webtoon, Oni getting redistributed, a great looking French graphic novel, a podcast nearing its end, Batman title pages, a publisher on pause, a comic shop doing cool things, and more.
