Random question of the day - how do you come up with designs for unique creatures in your world of writing?
Are they hybrids, based off 2 or more pre-existing creatures, are various ideas mashed up together? I think hybrid ideas can be fun, but I need to go creepy & unsettling for my Vakohr. 𧡠1/4
lovebirds...
I want them all to look "off" & I try to create designs of something that I haven't seen before. The idea is that they are ALL unpredictable & no one knows what they are capable of. Majority are simply ambush predators, waiting for their opponent to strike first, before they make a move. Tricky! 3/4
In Lights of the North, the Vakohr can look like, well, wherever my imagination takes me, & inspiration can come from anywhere! Sometimes they will have an animal base with strange additions, often involving human-like appendages, other times they will appear more like inanimate objects/shapes. 2/4

More doable goals! Hope I'll also have more time/energy to Bsky in general, too this week π
-finish the book I'm reading/start the next one
-re-read 5 chapters to comb over (Ch 11-15)
-finish Ch 8 (if editor's free)
-work on any Ch 9 editor notes (if applicable)
So here's a carousel of just a few of them. Pen always works best to give them that creepy, scratchy look. 4/4
