Neither is true. Nikki is innocent of wrongdoing; that's not the same as being a "good guy". Bear is morally frail in a way we all are; that's the tragedy, that wishful thinking and a lack of heroic courage results in disaster when normally it just results in everyday life.
Someone once told me that everyone involved in the production of a movie is guaranteed to make a profit except the investors.
I suspect that's why Hollywood keeps producing huge, high-budget films: not because it's actually necessary, but because it results in bigger 'cuts'.
I do recommend it. It's not perfect by any means, but the flaws are easily forgivable, especially once I learned how young and relatively new the director was.
And I am convinced it was mostly by lucky accident.
