On Monday, hundreds of Oakland city workers represented by IFPTE Local 21 shut down the City Council meeting to demand a fair contract that retains qualified staff and protects public services.
The Materials Testing Laboratory makes sure that San Francisco’s streets and infrastructure are safely built. Right now, it’s at risk of being privatized. This won’t save money, and it will hurt SF in the long run.

We packed the room at today’s SF Budget and Appropriations Committee meeting to save the City’s Materials Testing Lab from being outsourced to costly and unreliable private labs.
Workers from various depts all spoke out. The safety of our streets + city buildings is too important to contract out.
NEW: "Mayor Daniel Lurie sacrificed transparency and risked paying a higher price when he chose not to let companies compete to reform SF’s broken permitting system, instead awarding a lucrative, no-bid agreement to a tech firm with financial ties to his former nonprofit, according to a new report."
