Remember those days before EDI training when the police were beautiful gentle angels?
Britain real racist.
The normalisation of right wing discourse in both major political parties, let alone in much of the media, has been one of the most striking, and disturbing, changes in my lifetime. Things weren’t great in the 1960s (Smethwick) but this is off the scale.
If you say "I support Palestine Action", they might put you in jail.
If you incite a racist riot, they put you on the news.
It's hard to verify it, and it could just be my perception, but I truly feel like in the last five years I have seen the UK left get noticeably more reactionary; more carceral, more conspiracist, more essentialist, more opportunist, more moralistic, more superstitious.
Let's be blunt: these people *want* two-tier policing, they want in their favour, and believe they are entitled to it; if there is to be any injustice, it should always fall upon the 'other'.
This week on Question Time, we ask Matt Goodwin to tell us more about how Britain is institutionally racist against white people, and a Southampton rioter about what everyday items make the best projectiles to throw at police.
