Worth noting that in 1921, the American Yiddish-language press described the anti-Black Tulsa massacre as a “pogrom,” because they knew that was the word that would best make their immigrant Ashkenazi Jewish readers understand what happened. ingeveb.org/blog/the-mos...

All my Albanian homies are talking about this. And if you're not familiar with Worcester, MA, that's a lot of homies.
This has always been true. In my 20 years in education, every attempt to create equity has been met with accusations from the right of dumbing things down, creating special privileges, "dividing," etc. In particular when those efforts have worked. See Tuscon La Raza Studies as just one case study.
This is so perfectly said. Much like when we rely on others' interpretations of our sources for our analysis, when we rely on society's presets to determine what is and is not political, we are actually reinforcing the often inequitable status quo.
The words pogrom and genocide do not belong solely to the horrific historic violence against Jewish people. There is a rise in fascist violence against people by ethnic and racial groupings happening worldwide. That there is shared vocabulary for this should invite solidarity, not hurt our feelings.
So this guy (cabinet secretary that Idiocracy couldn't have predicted) trying to appeal to white Americans racism by invoking nationalism in another country but also got the country wrong and also accidentally took the opposite side of a long standing but until recently somewhat quieter civil war?
Here are the Chicks performing “Not Ready to Make Nice” on Kimmel last night on the 23rd anniversary of them being right about the Iraq War and getting actually canceled for it: youtu.be/Gc84Qk7f-pg
I would think the people rioting in loyalist areas in Belfast would be very surprised if not horrified that they were being labeled as " fighting for Ireland". Hilarious.
Hey, did you know writers are people too? I know, mind-blowing. We aren't AI-generated so we have to eat. So yeah, you can get single-access to Kate's piece for $2.
The section of Belfast where the rioting is occurring most definitely does not want to be Irish.
