As the ten-year mark of this horrific tragedy approaches, we hold those impacted in our hearts as they grieve a decade without their loved ones.
An average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner every single month in this country. Often, their children are also targeted in these shootings. We cannot accept this as normal.
Now, she’s a passionate advocate for Extreme Risk laws, which temporarily remove access to firearms to those found to pose a risk to themselves or others. “People have to be willing to say, ‘Yeah, that could be me or my sister, so what can we do to change this?” she said.
Vienna Peoples, 29, and her 14-year-old daughter Labria Miller were savagely gunned down at a home in Louisville, KY last week. Family members said Vienna and the man who carried out the shooting had been dating.
Survivors are the very heart of the gun violence prevention movement. Year after year during #WearOrange Weekend, they bravely share their stories and spread awareness about this preventable crisis — all in an effort to spare others this same pain.
