That building more roads or widening roads will not solve traffic.
(It's funny, I wince at posting this as it feels almost... slop-like. But when you talk to people outside the urban and transport planning worlds, this basic fact is still very poorly understood).
I have this strong memory of visiting the Boston Science Museum sometime as a kid and seeing an exhibit about the Big Dig (must have been early on in the project).
I remember a video that just ended with a man stuck in a jam saying, "Something has to be done about all this traffic..."
