The news brings to mind a Star Trek villain. Colonel Phillip Green was a despotic militia leader on Earth who operated from the early 21st century until after World War III. Green, known for his motto, "Overwhelm and devastate," was notorious for striking at his enemies during treaty negotiations
Very useful thread

Bold claim from Torsten Slok of Apollo. "Markets are overreacting to what will likely be a 4- to 6-week period of volatility, which will ultimately result in 50 years of stability in oil markets, supply chains and geopolitics." Up there with Irving Fisher's "permanently high plateau?

This is not a normal statement or appearance by an FCC chairman. This is a would-be authoritarian lackey bragging about creating a Thought Police. Don’t be okay with this.
Still can't get over this claim by Torsten Slok. What on earth makes him think Trump's attack on Iran would lead to 50 years of stability? Even if one takes the optimistic view that a pro-western democracy takes charge in Tehran, there are plenty of other sources of instability
1. Iran would have a form of credible strategic deterrence: bomb us and we close the Strait, causing global economic pain. 2. Tolling ships at (reportedly) $2m a time would be a huge income source for the regime. Typical daily pre-war volume was 120-150 vessels.
