A bunch of Minas!
bluesky could've been this if they actually wanted to be more than a fucking twitter clone but oh well until someone makes an actual forum or LJ-comm-style or forum-style atproto site, I dunno. maybe one day
god I fucking wish we had forums these days what I wouldn't give to be on a forum, talking in a thread about the new Widow's Bay episode. No pressure to watch a movie- when you do, you can just read the thread log and don't suggest reddit lmao it isn't the same, the karma upvote system is bullshit
twitter and tumblr are the hubs for fandom now and it's so fucking decentralized, you can't actually have fucking conversations at all! you reply with quotes to things or in threads and hope others see it, they usually don't, or only reply when you're half done your thought. How can you converse
everyone calm down it's an adaptation of the books, the director of The Boxtrolls is working with the book's author to do this, it isn't an adaptation of the ghlibli movie, you're gonna be okay let's all just calm down
you have to understand that enjoying fandom space used to be a ton of fun because in these comms- the hubs of these fandoms- everyone could read up and be on the same page, you didn't have to re-explain shit for people who just pop in halfway through a thread on twitter, real discussions happened
live journal, bar none you'd have your own blog to post on but the community blogs, or "comms", where like fast paced forums for explicitly ONE fandom at a time, and you could just go to the ones you wanted to. Everyone was on the same page, discussions never had to be watered down, etc
It's really, really important to follow workers' leads during union campaigns. And Starbucks workers are asking you to stop buying from Starbucks. So stop buying Starbucks.
thanks to everyone who got back to me so quickly! "It's a hollowing out of humanity in art, for the sake of efficiency" "Experienced devs openly admitting they're hacks that use generative AI in their workflows cured my impostor syndrome."
