According to Meta, every pair comes with training in how to use them to identify objects, read text, and manage everyday tasks. I hope the training also explains what data Meta collects and how that's used, maybe even the social implications of glasses with cameras and non-consensual sharing.
The Information: "Staff memo: Meta plans to limit employee token usage and encourage employees to use MetaCode, after internal AI spending forecasts reached billions for 2026" Token maxxing is coming to an end. The value isn't there now that somewhat more realistic pricing has becomes the norm.
"Stanford grads walk out as Google CEO Sundar Pichai takes the stage as commencement speaker. No mention of AI, unlike other uni speakers getting booed down this year." Fuck those ghouls. Boo them any chance you get. They're garbage humans that deserve only scorn and contempt.
NBC News: Opponents blocked or delayed at least 75 US data center projects in Q1 2026 worth ~$130B; data center opposition groups doubled to 833 across 49 states They want you to believe it's inevitable. It's not. RESIST
A blind friend, an accessibility engineer I worked with, was the first person I knew with Meta Ray-Bans. Visual assistance for blind and low vision people is probably the highest and best use case for AI glasses. Too bad it's Meta, but hey, free AI glasses for blind vets! I can't hate on that.
A drop in the bucket or not, new and meaningful pressure on already taxed water and power systems is worth worrying about. I don't care if golf courses use more water than AI. Enough whataboutism. There is nowhere in the US where AI data centers would not raise your costs and lower your service.
I was born on a commune, grew up in the DIY punk and skateboarding eras, and had a 25 year career working on and advocating for FLOSS. That feels like a pretty straight thru-line to me. I think I'm happy with that.

6,600 Meta engineers and product managers were drafted into into menial drudgework for Zuck's latest AI bet. One said, "You have zero purpose in life...you barely interact with anyone, you just have these tasks every week." These are technical workers, and Zuck's got them doing data entry.

LOL SpaceX fucked up its frontier model data center architecture. A core requirement was linking distant campuses for distributed training. The data centers got built but the connection plan failed. Leasing them to Anthropic and Google is just recouping losses on a costly, failed build.
