In white evangelicalism the idea is that you believe something because it is true, which becomes a practice of if you stop believing in something you’re upsetting the fabric of reality. Changing your mind changes reality. That’s the way it feels.
I started having ear pain today and am running a little warm (I haven’t been sick in 6+ years). My roommate asked if I wanted the magic of soup or the magic of chips and handed me my emergency bag from the garage. 😂
But since reality doesn’t work like this, it gave me permission to change my mind, and only have it impact the way I engage in the world.
1. It helped me realize how to love someone deeply that I strongly dislike because our values are completely different (Sgt Colon).
2: in the discworld things exist in proportion to belief. Gods with many believers are stronger than those with few believers. If no one believes in a God, the God doesn’t exist. This is the exact opposite of reality. Things exist, whether I believe in them or not. It helped shift responsibility.
