Are the vibes around the World Cup and America rancid? You better believe it. But the truth that sounds over and over is that the problems are the systems and the state actors and the institutions and the corporations. The people underneath it all are good and loving and caring.

Just like, Kansan grandmas dancing with Algerian moms and you know both of them are going to carry it with them for a long time and, boom, like that, the world gets a little bit smaller and friendlier. Kids learning the rest of the world isn’t scary. It’s just unreal and powerful.
I think one of the antidotes to this national dread is just watching one video after another of friendly and excited Americans welcoming people for the World Cup. There’s not a one of them that isn’t tear-inducing. A good reminder of what this country should and could feel like.
I’m a hoosier and I’ve watched Anunoby his entire career. I’m so happy for him. I’m so damn happy for that man. Holy shit.
It’s wild to watch a dude from his freshman year in college and be like, hey, I think this guy has something, and then watch him win a pivotal Finals game after contributing. Oh my god. I’m old. Life can be sweet.
