"There is great potential here to revisit our understanding of Ediacaran Earth history.” @dartmouthears.bsky.social professor Justin Strauss co-led a study that found a diverse deposit of Ediacaran fossils in Northwestern Canada, suggesting complex animals evolved earlier than previously understood.
Yesterday was the Earth & Planetary Science 2026 Senior Honor Thesis Presentations, where twelve of our EAPS undergrads presented the culmination of the research studies they have completed this year. Special thanks to Leslie Sonder, the EAPS Undergraduate Advisor, for hosting this evening!
As of this summer, @dartmouthears.bsky.social will be known as the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. “We’ve been building toward this for about 20 years, and the research has genuinely grown to span both Earth and other planetary bodies,” says department chair Meredith Kelly.
Today many of our EAPS undergrads presented their work at the Wetterhahn Science Symposium. Notably, two of our undergrads won 2nd & 3rd place for their Senior Honors Theses! Congratulations to Caleb Saks and Jacob Schnell!
