My town has a tradition where the seniors who did K-12 in the district go back to their elementary schools in their caps and gown. There's a parade through the halls where they high-five the little kids and a reception where they can thank their former teachers. It's absolutely lovely.

Autocrats do not follow the "rule of law." Autocrats "rule by law." They use the law capriciously to reward their friends and punish their enemies. The do not allow the law to bind them and their cronies, they use the law as a cudgel to punish others. Authoritarian law doesn't protect, it punishes.
