The misattribution of foreign interference due to ideology and prejudice is harmful to the fight against foreign interference.
My OpEd highlights one example:
It is stunning that the government cannot confidently say that it isn’t antisemitic to criticize Israel for documented violations of international law.
The newly established council on rights and inclusion will get nowhere unless we get this clarity.
👍👍👍
My motion calling on Canada to examine its risk of complicity in grave violations of international law in Gaza was defeated 40-12.
Here is the exchange that preceded the vote:
Senator @donnadasko.bsky.social brought a "sociological imagination" to public life: the ability to connect individual experiences with broader social issues.
My tribute to her contributions to equality, democratic participation, polling & the modernization of the Senate: youtu.be/QpWIF8A9Ir8?...

It was an honour to exchange views with Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang and to meet senior officials, businesspeople & community leaders at the Canada-Vietnam Business Forum in Toronto.
Thanks to Embassy of Vietnam in Canada & the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada for a successful set of meetings.

Thank you to @senatorsenior.bsky.social, Senator Muggli, @carecanada.bsky.social & @savethechildrencan.bsky.social for hosting an important discussion on Canada’s humanitarian role in a time of growing conflict and uncertainty.
Humanitarian aid saves lives and supports lasting peace and stability.
From the speech which launched my motion: “It took Canada over a decade to acknowledge and apologize for its inaction on the Rwandan genocide. Will it take as long again on Palestine?”

Hon. Yuen Pau Woo: Honourable senators, I join others to pay tribute to Senator Dasko, who has made a lifetime of contributions to equality rights, political participation, polling and law-making.
The NDP has been advocating for a Filipino Cultural Centre in Metro Vancouver for many years. Our persistence resulted in a federal budget commitment for this much-needed community resource. The Filipino-Canadian community contributes so much to our country — they deserve a place to call home.
Sen. Yuen Pau Woo: You do not have to agree with a Canadian who aligns with Beijing’s position on a given issue. But you should not assume that alignment is an indicator of foreign interference.
