This is not the first time Iβve teared up while watching professional wrestling and thatβs pretty amazing
As a Mission Hill alumnus (it was my first animation job!) itβs awesome to see younger artists recognizing how cool these backgrounds were. Lauren MacMullan pushed hard for this comic look, and I believe Joseph Holt was the art director that executed the vision, though the whole art dept was great
I had to square this off for posting reasons, but I liked the original super narrow framing better, which Iβll post here just to laugh at the preview crop

Iβve been laughing about the genius of βhourglass anklesβ for five minutes. Beauty in simplicity
I canβt recall if the colors were too bright for broadcast, as one commenter is asking, but I do remember the studio balking because we needed so many more paint pods (cannot remember what the right term for those is) than other shows they produced.
People used to complain about seeing βdirected by Colin Heckβ at the end of emotional Korra episodes but
@lizclimo.bsky.social and I enjoyed Chris Flemingβs HBO special and hereβs a drawing I made while we watched
Oh man, this show was actually my first directing credit but being confronted with this image was still a jump scare. (I fled to Legend of Korra immediately afterward)
My kid said βdad, those two Amazon trucks are kissing!β and I said βtheyβre giving each other bezosβ and oh, reader, how we laughed
