“[The LEU Connection Policy] would lead to a lot more gas use, and a lot more emissions, pushing multiple legally-binding climate targets even further out of reach”
Emissions associated with data centre demand under the policy:
Super exciting and important work happening at Mount Sandel - using archaeology to support peace and prosperity in Northern Ireland
Tx again @pintofscienceie.bsky.social for hosting our Prehistoric Policies talk, and for these photos. (tx @britishacademy.bsky.social funding!).
From Trump, via Hesgeth, the Iranian embassy's social media account, to Poverty Point, to make a point about civilisational narratives... Lots of fun!

Lots of activity on our last fieldwork day at Mount Sandel. Coring in the woods (and a challenge for GPS!), volunteers helping process samples, Borough Council filming us and lots of visitors! Great day.
V excited to be carrying out survey at (checks notes) MOUNT SANDEL !!!! Geophysics and bore holes with friends and colleagues Philippe de Smedt, Lola Claeys, Valentijn de Parys, @martinmoucheron.bsky.social and Deborah Nagle @naikaiouk.bsky.social
Reflections on the Joint Committee on AI and my new working paper that shows how data centres could consume 55% of Ireland's electricity by 2040 and cause gas demand to rise.

Today, I'll brief the Joint Committee on Artificial Intelligence on a new working paper which quantifies the potential energy and emissions from data centres into the future under the new Large Energy User Connection Policy, should 5.8 GW of new capacity (estimated through a market survey) emerge.
