Delighted to have an article in this month's @historytoday.com
The article explores the 1951 Hans Crescent Strike, the post-war history of colonial students in the UK, and the British Council's attempt to use them for imperial soft power.

Dwarfed by the 1960s cold war bunker, Murray Edwards historians visit the Centre for Material Culture, in what would have been the post nuclear strike seat of government for the East of England - now a listed building
Thanks to our Chief Custodian Steve Corbett for setting us up with a summer lunch spot while the Faculty is out of the Stirling Building 👏👏
Hoping all will gather in the Sidgwick Lodge garden while the summer weather is here 🔥
'The Mirror of Great Britain: A Life of James VI & I' by Professor Clare Jackson wins 2026 Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography, beating a “formidable” shortlist 👏👏
The judges praised "a masterwork by a historian uniquely equipped to reinterpret James VI and I and his times".
Rosamond McKitterick (1949-2026)
A formidable scholar, an inspiring teacher, a generous spirit and a supportive colleague - truly, we have lost one of the great ones.

'Francis Bacon and the crisis of the palatinate'
Quentin Skinner Lecture, 19 June

Dr Samuel Zeitlin (UCL) will discuss Bacon’s evolving responses to the crisis of the Palatinate through writing and civil histories, in response to the onset of the Thirty Years War
We lost Rosamond McKitterick, a great scholar, a great teacher, and a great human being, far too early. This has been hard to write, but thinking about her, who she was and the person she chose to be can never bring me anything but joy. #medievalsky
